El programa de Jordi González en Tele 5, dentro de su habitual línea pedagógica, invitó a la novia de Antonio Puertas. Ya saben, la mujer a la que Puertas estaba zurrando hasta que intervino el profesor Jesús Neira. Como saben también, Puertas está en prisión preventiva, y el profesor Neira permanece en coma, en un estado crítico.

Jesús Neira ya es un héroe. Pero no tenía que haber intervenido aquel fatídico 2 de agosto, porque alteró el orden natural de las cosas. Puertas está bien donde está. Neira, por desgracia, ocupa la plaza hospitalaria que le correspondía a esta mujer.

Desde la Comunidad de Madrid nos orgullece anunciaros que hemos puesto en funcionamiento la nueva M-501, una "autovía medioambiental", donde podréis cruzar por adecuados agujeros para llegar a los pocos pero frondosos árboles que han quedado cerca de tan impresionante instalación.

Da igual que vuestros amigos, los ecologistas abraza-árboles y besa-jabalíes, protestaran diciendo que ese territorio era suyo, que los animales habían medrado durante centurias en esas mismas tierras que ahora están cubiertas de asfalto para beneficio de todos. Entended, que nosotros necesitábamos esta autovía para que nuestros coches pudiesen llegar más rápido a los pocos lugares de la sierra que aún están sin afectar por la especulación, la contaminación y demás parabienes que la humanidad exporta a tantos y tantos lugares sin civilizar.

En resumen, queridas amigas, donde antes teníais un bosque sucio y lleno de harapientos árboles, ahora tenéis una cinta de progreso, flanqueada por 200 metros a cada lado de tierra pelada. Pero no os preocupéis, ponemos a vuestra disposición unos higiénicos pasadizos subterráneos para vuestra comodidad. Así mismo, os rogamos que os abstengáis de cruzar por la carretera, pues la presencia de mamíferos aplastados afean en grado sumo la imagen de nuestras vías de comunicación, a parte de abollar nuestros vehículos.

CALCUTTA, India — One of the world's oldest creatures, a giant tortoise believed to have been about 250 years old, has died in the Calcutta zoo where it spent more than half its long life.

Addwaita, which means "the one and only" in the local Bengali language, was one of four Aldabra tortoises brought to India by British sailors in the 18th century.

Zoo officials say he was a gift for Lord Robert Clive of the East India Company, who was instrumental in establishing British colonial rule in India, before he returned to England in 1767.

Long after the other three tortoises died, Addwaita continued to thrive, living in Clive's garden before being moved to the zoo in 1875.

SYDNEY, Australia — A 176-year-old tortoise believed by some to have been owned by Charles Darwin has died in an Australian zoo.

The giant tortoise, known as Harriet, was long reputed to have been one of three tortoises taken from the Galapagos Islands by Darwin on his historic 1835 voyage aboard the HMS Beagle.

However, historical records, while suggestive, don't prove the claim, and some scientists have cast doubt on the story, with DNA tests confirming Harriet's age but showing she came from an island that Darwin never visited.

According to local legend, Harriet was just five years old and probably no bigger than a dinner plate when she was taken from the Galapagos to Britain.

She spent a few years in Britain before being moved to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens in Australia's tropical Queensland state in the mid-1800s, where she was mistaken for a male and nicknamed Harry, according to Australia Zoo, which later bought the 150-kilogram tortoise.

Tu'i Malila
